34 students punished in GTU mass cheating case

In the hearing by the unfair means committee (UFM) of the Gujarat Technological University (GTU), 34 out of 39 students caught in the mass cheating case were punished. Moreover, the Government Diploma College in Vyara (Polytechnic), where the cheating took place, was also cancelled by the committee.
The much talked about mass cheating took place during the winter semester examinations of GTU conducted during January-February this year.
The university had noticed similar answers in the answer sheets of 39 students appearing for a mathematics exam, and 153 students were called for face-to-face hearing.
The hearing of 135 out of 153 students has been completed, whereas 18 cases are still pending.
Out of total 135 students, 24 students have been punished with level-1 i.e. the results of the subject have been cancelled.
16 students have been given level-2 punishment i.e. the result of the entire winter semester exam has been cancelled.
57 students have been given level-3 punishment i.e. cancellation of winter semester results and also barred from appearing in next semester's exams.
Two students have been banned from taking the examination of the next two semesters besides cancelling the results of the winter semester.
The committee also decided to stop the remuneration of the centre in-charge, senior supervisor, junior supervisor, and the GTU coordinator.
