23 AMC corporators under utilise funds as ₹3 cr remain unused

Out of the 48 wards in Ahmedabad, 23 corporators from both the ruling and opposition parties of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), who were elected three years ago, have used only ₹7 cr out of their allotted annual budget, which is approx ₹10 cr.

A total of a whopping ₹3 cr remains unutilised by them, raising questions about their effectiveness and commitment to addressing concerns of their respective wards.

Each of these municipal corporators were given a total budget of ₹44 lakh for the tenure 2023–24, including a taxation amount of ₹4 lakh over the annual ₹40 lakh budget.

Usually, this amount has to be converted into a registered expenditure by December. However, corporators have failed to use 25% to 50% of this amount, say sources.

Ajay Desai, BJP corporator from Gota and Madhuri Kalapi, Congress corporator from Dariyapur have unutilised funds worth ₹26.46 lakh and ₹23.15 lakh, respectively.

Gaurang Prajapati, a BJP corporator from Bhaipura, has more than ₹15 lakh unutilised budget funds.

While, Congress corporators Akbar Bhatti of Shahpur and Rajshri Kesari of Chandkheda, along with BJP corporators Omprakash Prajapati of Asarwa and Rajeshri Patel of Chandlodia, have utilised their entire budget.
