A 20-year-old student died in a hit-and-run accident on Sarkhej-Dholka Road in Ahmedabad on Friday afternoon after a dumper truck allegedly rammed into her two-wheeler and fled the scene, police said.

The deceased was identified as Kavya Sunil Pandya, a resident of Bhumika Apartment near Gira Park in Vejalpur area of the city.

According to the M Division Traffic Police Station, the incident took place around 12.45 pm near New Fatewadi, close to the Azadnagar bus stop on Sarkhej-Dholka Road.

Police said Kavya was on her way to Rai University in Chaloda, Dholka taluka, when an unidentified dumper driver allegedly drove the vehicle at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner before hitting her two-wheeler.

The impact left the woman with severe head and body injuries, leading to her death on the spot, officials said. The dumper driver fled from the scene immediately after the accident.

Police said efforts are under way to trace the accused driver through CCTV footage and human intelligence inputs gathered from the area. Further investigation into the case is in progress.
