1992 case reopened after human skeleton found from well in Ahmedabad’s Vatva
In a major breakthrough in a suspected decades-old murder case, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Wednesday recovered human skeletal remains from a residential property in the Vatva area. Investigators believe this could help unravel a long-buried murder dating back to 1992.
The remains were recovered during an excavation carried out by the Crime Branch at a house in Qutub Nagar Society following fresh intelligence inputs in connection with the old case.
Police said skeletal remains including the skull, ribs, limbs and other human bones were found from a well within the house.
The recovered remains have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination and identification, officials said.
Investigators believe the forensic report will be crucial in establishing the identity of the deceased and confirming whether the remains are linked to the 1992 murder case that had remained unresolved for over three decades.
Sources in the Crime Branch said the breakthrough came after investigators acted on specific and unusual information, leading them to reopen the old case and conduct the excavation.
Officials said the development could finally expose the truth behind the long-suppressed murder once the forensic findings are received.
