16,600 foreign cigarettes seized at Ahmedabad airport from two passengers arriving from Abu Dhabi

Customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport seized 16,600 sticks of foreign-origin cigarettes from two passengers who arrived in Ahmedabad from Abu Dhabi on May 17.
According to officials, the passengers, one from Malappuram and the other from Kozhikode in Kerala landed at Ahmedabad on Etihad Airways Flight EY-246 from Abu Dhabi.
During inspection, authorities recovered foreign-brand cigarettes, including Manchester and Dunhill, allegedly being smuggled into the country in violation of customs regulations.
The entire consignment of cigarettes was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation into the case is underway.
