6 Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Ahmedabad LG Hospital Murder Case

A city court in Ahmedabad has sentenced six men to life imprisonment for the 2019 murder of a man inside LG Hospital in Maninagar, holding them guilty of participating in a violent assault that took place within the hospital premises.

The City Civil and Sessions Court convicted the six accused in connection with the murder of Amir Sheikh, while acquitting several others after finding insufficient evidence to establish their individual involvement in the crime.

Murder Inside Hospital Emergency Ward

The incident dates back to the night of May 21, 2019, when an altercation took place in the Ramol area of Ahmedabad.

According to the prosecution, an injured man identified as Rameez was taken to LG Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Amir Sheikh, who had also sustained injuries in the same incident, was brought to the hospital in a 108 ambulance for treatment.

Investigators told the court that shortly after Amir arrived at the hospital, a group of around 20 to 25 people entered the premises allegedly seeking revenge over the earlier clash.

The group allegedly forced its way through the hospital entrance, dragged Amir from the emergency area and assaulted him.

Medical evidence presented before the court showed that Amir suffered 22 ante-mortem injuries and died due to shock and internal bleeding caused by the attack.

Six Convicted, Others Acquitted

The court sentenced Anwar Ahmed alias Raju, Mubarak Sheikh, Wasim Khan Pathan, Nashir Khan Pathan, Arbaz alias Gabba and Aveshhussain Sheikh to life imprisonment after finding them guilty of actively participating in the assault.

Several other accused were acquitted after the prosecution failed to establish their involvement beyond reasonable doubt.

Conviction Under Murder and Rioting Charges

The six convicts were found guilty under provisions of the Indian Penal Code relating to murder and rioting, including Section 302 (murder) and Sections 143, 147 and 148 dealing with unlawful assembly and rioting.

The court also convicted the accused under provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act in connection with damage caused to hospital property during the incident.
