The Maninagar Police have solved the theft of ₹6 lakh from a warehouse in Ahmedabad's Gujcomasol Estate within days of the incident, arresting a former employee who allegedly broke into the premises and stole the cash just hours after being dismissed from his job.
Police said the entire stolen amount has been recovered from the accused.
Rapido To Theft
The accused has been identified as Deepak Parmar, a former employee of the warehouse.
According to investigators, Parmar allegedly hired a Rapido motorcycle to reach the warehouse, broke a window to gain entry and stole ₹6 lakh that had been kept beneath an office accounts table.
The complainant, Deepakbhai Ravindrabhai Manwani (26), runs Oshodeep Sales Agency, a wholesale business dealing in soft drinks, soap, diapers and pan masala from a rented office and warehouse at Gujcomasol Estate near Kankaria Gate No. 5 in Maninagar.
A Stolen Car
Police said that after completing business on July 3, the complainant placed ₹6 lakh in a red bag beneath the office accounts table before locking the warehouse and leaving for home.
When he returned the following morning, the cash was missing. He also found that a window had been broken, following which a case of housebreaking and theft was registered at the Maninagar Police Station.
CCTV and Rapido ride lead police to accused
During the investigation, teams led by Police Inspector J.P. Jadeja analysed CCTV footage from the warehouse and surrounding areas.
Investigators noticed the movement of several motorcycles near the warehouse around the time of the theft, including one operating as a Rapido bike.
Police then traced the Rapido rider, who provided details of the customer who had booked the ride, including the mobile number used for the journey.
Technical analysis of the information led investigators to Deepak Parmar, who had previously worked at the warehouse.
Theft allegedly motivated by dismissal
According to police, Parmar told investigators that he had sought a salary increase, which was declined by his employer. He was allegedly dismissed from his job on the morning of July 3.
Investigators said the accused was familiar with the warehouse and knew where the daily cash collections were kept because of his previous employment.
Police alleged that, upset over losing his job and facing financial difficulties, he returned later that day, broke a window to enter the premises and stole the cash.
The accused has since been arrested, and the entire ₹6 lakh has been recovered.
