Massive Fire After Chemical Truck Crash Kills Two on Ahmedabad-Indore Highway

A devastating road accident occurred early on Saturday (July 26) on the Ahmedabad-Indore National Highway near Paniya Bus Stand in Limkheda, Dahod district, where two people were burnt alive after a collision between two Eicher trucks triggered a massive fire.

Driver and cleaner trapped inside burning cabin

According to initial information, a chemical-laden Eicher truck travelling at high speed from the Godhra side rammed into another truck that was parked on the side of the highway. The impact allegedly caused the inflammable chemical cargo to ignite, resulting in a massive explosion and fire that quickly engulfed both vehicles.

The driver and cleaner of the chemical-laden truck were trapped inside the cabin and were unable to escape. Both died after being burnt alive in the blaze.

The second truck, which was carrying a consignment of plywood, also caught fire due to the impact and flames. While the plywood cargo was completely destroyed, the main structure of the truck reportedly sustained comparatively less damage.

Fire brigade, police launch rescue operation

Hearing the loud explosion, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and attempted to control the fire before emergency teams arrived.

Fire brigades from Limkheda and Devgadh Baria reached the scene and brought the blaze under control after a prolonged firefighting operation.

A team from the Limkheda Police also reached the accident site. Using a crane, police officials moved the damaged truck and recovered the two bodies trapped inside the cabin. The bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination, and legal proceedings have been initiated.

The accident also caused a major traffic jam on the Ahmedabad-Indore Highway. Police later cleared the wreckage and restored normal traffic movement.
