AMC Seizes 122.6 Kg of Banned Plastic From Markets, Shops and Street Vendors in Two-Day Drive

Despite an ongoing crackdown on single-use plastic in Ahmedabad, the civic body seized 122.6 kg of banned plastic items from markets, shops and street vendors during a special two-day enforcement drive across the city.

2,817 establishments inspected across 48 wards

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Solid Waste Management Department carried out the campaign against the use of single-use plastic and plastic products thinner than 120 microns. The drive focused on vegetable and fruit markets, major commercial hubs and other public places.

Officials inspected a total of 2,817 establishments across the city’s 48 wards over the two-day period.

Fine of ₹3.17 lakh imposed

During the inspections, authorities recovered more than 122.6 kg of prohibited plastic materials, including plastic bags, carry bags, cups, plates and straws.

The civic body also imposed fines worth ₹3.17 lakh on violators found using the banned items.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation regularly conducts awareness campaigns and enforcement drives against the use of prohibited plastic. However, the latest operation highlights the continued use of single-use plastic across the city despite the ban.
