Trapped Inside Jewellery Shop, Two Suspected Thieves Call 112 To Summon Police In Sanjan

A midnight robbery attempt at a jewellery shop in Sanjan village of Valsad’s Umargam taluka was foiled after alert residents trapped two suspected thieves inside the premises. In a curious turn of events, the suspects themselves dialled 112 and called the police after locals locked the shop from outside.

Locals spot suspects inside shop

The incident took place at B.J. Jewellers, a gold and silver jewellery shop in Sanjan, around midnight on Tuesday.

The presence of two men inside the shop raised suspicion among local residents. Several people, including young residents, gathered outside and alerted the jeweller. They then shut and secured the shop’s door from the outside, leaving the two suspects unable to escape.

With the crowd gathered outside, the suspects reportedly panicked and called the emergency number 112 themselves.

Police take two suspects into custody

A police team reached the spot after receiving the call and took both men to the police station. Tools allegedly intended for use in the theft were also recovered from their possession.

During initial questioning, the suspects allegedly gave false names. Police said they disclosed their identities after further questioning.

The police are now checking whether the two men have been involved in previous offences and are examining their criminal records.

Investigation underway

The failed robbery attempt was attributed to the alertness of local residents, who noticed the suspects before they could allegedly steal anything from the shop.

Police are carrying out further inquiries and taking steps to register a case against the two suspects.
