Lawyer Hired to Fight Teen's Assault Case Arrested for Assaulting Her in Surat

A 43-year-old lawyer has been reportedly arrested in Surat, Gujarat, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl. The victim is a survivor of a previous sexual assault case, and the lawyer had been hired by her family to assist them with the legal proceedings.

The police reportedly arrested the accused, identified as Pranayraj Ranvir, on Tuesday following a complaint filed at the Sachin GIDC police station. Ranvir reportedly took advantage of the family’s poor financial situation to exploit the minor girl.

Exploitation Under the Guise of Legal Help

The girl’s parents, who reportedly work as daily wage labourers, had approached Ranvir for help with their daughter's ongoing court case. Because they could not afford his legal fees, Ranvir offered to represent them for free if the minor was to be employed at his house as a domestic help.

Police reportedly said, when the girl went to his house for work, Ranvir sexually assaulted her. He also threatened to ruin her ongoing court case if she told anyone about the crime.

Case Breakdown

A practicing lawyer originally from Dholka taluka in Ahmedabad, the lawyer currently resides in Dindoli, Surat. Police reportedly said that he is a repeat offender and has previously been booked for domestic cruelty, rioting, and liquor prohibition offenses in Ahmedabad and Surat.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the minor's complaint, the Sachin GIDC police swung into action and arrested the lawyer on Tuesday as per reports.

The local police reportedly said that a thorough investigation is currently underway. Authorities are actively collecting forensic evidence and verifying the exact sequence of events to build a strong case against the accused lawyer.
