Indian students die in US

In another tragic accident taking place abroad, three Indian-origin students were killed in a horrific car crash in the USA’s Alpharetta, Georgia, near Atlanta, on May 14. The accident was reported to have taken place at around 7.55 pm.

The deceased Indian students have been identified as Aryan Joshi, a student at Alpharetta High School, and Sriya Avasarala and Anvi Sharma, students at the University of Georgia.

“Based on evidence at the scene, it is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle which then came to rest upside down in the tree line. Two of the occupants -Aryan Joshi and Sriya Avasarala- were found deceased at the scene. The remaining three occupants were transported to North Fulton Hospital for treatment. As of 11.50 am today (May 15) we can confirm that Anvi Sharma, one of the passengers in the rear of the vehicle, has also succumbed to injuries received during the crash,” Alpharetta police said in a statement.

Aryan and Sriya were pronounced dead at the scene, while the three remaining students were taken to North Fulton Hospital in Alpharetta for treatment, where Anvi succumbed to her injuries.

Alpharetta High School student Mohammed Liyakath and the driver of the car, Georgia State University student Rithwik Sompalli, are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the cause of the accident was over speeding.

This adds to the string of accidents involving Indians taking place in the US in recent times, where three Gujarat-origin women lost their lives on Apr 26 in the USA’s South Carolina.
