‘NRI dream life is trap’, woman shares cousin’s story who left her husband

A social media user on X revealed a story about her cousin who left her non-resident Indian husband and called it ‘NRI dream life’ as a trap. She further mentioned that her cousin became a 24/7 unpaid laborer with zero social life.

A woman on X named Dewy.dee , finance professional and voice for women shared a story about her cousin who left her husband, saying,” My cousin just left her husband and came back to India.”

She said moving abroad is extremely isolating and extra labor work for in-laws, saying “the reality of moving abroad was just extreme isolation, endless chores and toxic in-laws demanding extra labor to stay rooted.”

The woman further mentioned that her cousin thought abroad has clean roads and fresh air with aesthetic faded real quick but she realised it as the woman quotes a 24/7 unpaid laborer with zero social life.

Later, the woman suggested that many young girls are stuck in this but can’t leave because of family pressure at home in India.

The user also revealed about her cousin’s one incident where she went to a mall abroad wearing shorts and a crop, at that time, the user quotes ‘desi aunty’ casually hit her and said her ’Oh beta, bade change ho gaye’ (Oh dear, you’ve changed so much). 

Her cousin replied by showing the lady pics of her wearing backless fits and praying in India, after which the lady told her, ”Aap toh bahar aake aur bhi zyada ganwar ho gaye (You’ve become even more uncultured after coming here).” After which, a major drama was created in her home but she ignored it, the woman says.
