Indian PhD student killed in bicycle accident in London

In another incident of an Indian student’s death abroad, a PhD (doctorate of philosophy) researcher, reported by media to be enrolled at the London School of Economics, lost her life in an accident in London, United Kingdom, on Mar 19.

Reports state the deceased was a woman named Cheistha Kochhar, who met with an accident with a vehicle purported to be a garbage truck while she was riding a bicycle with her husband.

Police and medical staff rushed to the scene but failed to revive the 33-year-old, despite several efforts, added reports.

A friend of Kochhar’s expressed his grief over her demise on the X platform and mentioned her as a “...super talented and super special friend”.

The former chairman of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Dr RS Sharma, in his Linkedin post mentioned her as being associated with “the founding team of Aadhar” and said she had “displayed a strong work ethic, a meticulous approach, and an infectious cheer.”

Kochhar was born in Uttar Pradesh and resided in Gurgaon before moving to London in September last year, stated the reports. She was reported to have been pursuing her PhD in organisational behaviour management.

She is also reported to have previously been associated with NITI Aayog and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
