Updated: May 20th, 2024

An Indian national in Dubai won a lottery worth US$1 million (₹8.32 crore), from a ticket that was bought from her anniversary gift from her husband, reported the media.

Payal, a 42-year-old Indian-origin woman and a resident of Dubai, purchased Dubai Duty Free’s Millennium Millionaire draw from the Dubai International Airport on May 3. She was announced the winner on May 16 in a ‘finest surprise draw’ held at the airport, according to the lottery website.

“I want to secure my kids’ future so they can have a good life. I would also extend help to my brother, who is in Australia, and do some charity work with our community in Punjab,” she was quoted as saying on the website.

Payal is a Dubai resident for 12 years now, and she is a regular participant in such lotteries, buying tickets every time she travels, stated the website. Her winning draw came with Millennium Millionaire Series 461 with ticket number 3,337.

The lottery website also stated that Indians were the biggest buyers of their ticket, and Payal was the 229th Indian winner of their draw.
