A remarkable turn of fate has befallen Sandip Patel, a Gujarati-origin residing in Canada’s Ontario, after bagging a lottery draw of CAD1 m (₹6.15 cr) on Mar 21.

43-year-old Sandip runs his business in Ontario’s Arnprior town. He persistently spends after lottery tickets, purchasing them multiple times in a week. But he mentioned that this is his “first big win.”

While being indulged in the daily chore of cleaning his car a few days ago, he landed upon an old lottery ticket he had bought last year.

To his astonishment, upon scanning the ticket, he discovered his windfall of a win, a CAD1 m from a draw, that was held on July 29, 2023.

Promptly seizing the opportunity, Sandip journeyed to Toronto, where he was presented with a cheque for the lottery amount.

Upon landing this unprecedented feat, Sandip said, “My head began to spin. I was so shocked! I still don’t believe it. I never thought I’d win, but my wife always had faith in me. It’s like a dream come true.”

He plans to pay off his mortgage, invest, and save his win.

“I can now say I’m a millionaire!” he remarked amusingly.
