Fortune favoured the generous, as a gold chain bought by an Indian-origin husband for his wife in Singapore became the source of his overnight riches amounting to $1 mn (₹8.46 crore).
Balasubramanian Chithambaram bought a gold chain from a local store, ‘Mustafa Jewellery’, on November 24.
However, the bling turned priceless for the couple as Chithambaram’s purchase was part of a lottery scheme run by the shop.
Chithambaram, a project engineer for 21 years-turned-millionaire, attributes this fortunate deed to the blessings received from his father on his death anniversary.
The jewellery shop organised an event at the Tessensohn Civil Service Club, which featured 250 participants who could be part of the draw with a purchase of 250 Singapore dollars.
Chithambaram bought the chain worth SGD 6,000 and was announced as the first winner of the lucky draw.
Speaking over his win, an emotional Chithambaram said, “This is a blessing from my father; we are observing his fourth death anniversary. I am excited to share this news with my mother. I am planning to give back to the years of residence Singapore has provided me with and wish to donate a part of it.”
