Indian-origin paediatrician charged with first degree murder of daughter in US
An Indian-origin paediatrician was arrested for allegedly killing her 4-year-old daughter on July 2.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) obtained an arrest warrant for Dr Neha Gupta and travelled to Oklahoma City, United States, for her arrest.
According to investigators, uniform officers from the Village of El Portal Police Department responded to reports of a drowning child in a residential pool.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and transported the child to an area hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the mother, paediatrician Dr Gupta, and her daughter had travelled from Oklahoma City and were staying at a short-term rental.
As per the sheriff’s office, during the overnight hours, a 9-1-1 call was received stating the child was drowning inside the pool. Once officers arrived, they discovered the victim unresponsive inside the pool.
“Dr Neha Gupta is pending extradition to Miami-Dade County, where she will be charged with Murder in the first degree. There is no arrest affidavit nor booking photo available at this time,” said MDSO.
