Indian-origin man shoots two women in New Jersey, one dies

In a shocking incident in New Jersey, an Indian woman was killed and another was critically injured when an Indian-origin man shot them outside a residential building in Carteret on June 12. 

The 19-year-old shooter Gaurav Gill of Kent, Washington, was arrested on June 12, as authorities responded to a report of a shooting in the Roosevelt Avenue area.

Upon their arrival, officers located two female victims, who had both sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. One of the victims, Jasvir Kaur, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The other 20-year-old  victim, Gagandeep Kaur, is in critical condition.

An initial investigation led by Detective Keith Cassens of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has led to the apprehension of the suspect, as per Middlesex County Police.

Media reports claimed that accused Gill and injured woman Gagandeep Kaur knew each other and attended IELTS coaching classes together in Nakodar, Punjab.

Jasvir Kaur, who was killed, hailed from Gorsian near Nurmahal, a small city in Punjab. At the time of the incident on the morning of June 12, she had been hosting her cousin Gagandeep at her residence, according to media reports.

Gill was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree Murder, two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, one count of fourth-degree possession of a high-capacity magazine and one count of first-degree attempted murder.
