50-yr-old Gujarati on visitor visa gets study permit in Canada, sparks social media uproar

A social media post has sparked a massive internet outrage among visa aspirants and citizens of Canada, as a man of Gujarati origin, Prateek Gadhvana, claimed to be a 50-year-old by the post,  entered the country on a visitor visa, and has now bagged a study permit.

In a video shared on social networking site Reddit, Gadhvana is seen iterating his visa process in Gujarati. He mentions that a Canada-based visa consulting firm, GOAT Consulting Inc., helped him obtain the study permit.

He adds that the consultancy firm also helped his wife obtain the spousal open-work permit (SOWP), which is given to the lawful partner of the temporary permit holder.

In the video posted by a user in the subreddit CanadaHousing2.0, the caption mentions, “Let’s continue working hard and paying our increased taxes and increased rental prices/housing costs so we can cover the costs of people like Prateek Bhai a 50 year old Indian man who came as a visitor now a student and his wife who is here on an open spousal visa. Canadians need to wake the ** up.”

The consultancy firm has since turned its Instagram handle private.

Several users expressed their discontent over Gadhvana obtaining the permit.

A user wrote, “This guy is the face of the problem. I feel bad for the respectable Indian Canadians (Canadians) who worked hard for our country. They are lumped in with these ‘students’ now and must hate it.” visitor visa, and has now bagged a study permit.
