Indian-origin convicted in UK

A London court has sentenced a 25-year-old Indian-origin man, Sriram Amberla, to 16 years in prison for attempting to murder a woman two years ago.

According to media reports, Amberla stabbed the woman, also an Indian-origin, on Mar 5, 2022 at a Hyderabadi restaurant based in East London. The 23-year-old was working as a part-time employee at the restaurant and was Amberla’s former girlfriend.

The two had been in a relationship during their college days in 2017. After their breakup, an infuriated Amberla committed this heinous act.

During the trial, the prosecutor told the court that Amberlo had been searching for several suspicious topics on the internet related to “killing a human”, including “what happens if a foreigner murders in the Kingdom -Uni”, “how to kill a human with a knife”, “how easy is it to kill someone with a knife”, and “how to kill someone instantly with a knife,” said media reports.

The victim underwent six surgeries and had to be kept under ICU for a month. She survived the attack.

Judge Philip Katz, who presided over the case, called Amberla a “jealous man”. Pronouncing the verdict, he said, “It’s not thanks to you that she didn’t die.” He also remarked, “Amberla made all attempts to kill the woman.”

Along with his 16-year sentence, he was also barred from contacting the woman.

CCTV footage of the incident and a medical report showing the stab wounds on the victim’s body were presented in court during the trial.
