Indian couple without return tickets denied entry to US, claims report
An Indian couple was denied entry into the United States and sent back to India from Newark Airport, despite presenting clear travel plans and holding valid B-1/B-2 visitor visas. The incident has sparked confusion and worry among travellers, as US authorities have made no official announcements about changes to entry requirements.
As per a report by Mirchi9, the couple had travelled to visit their children in the US and planned to stay for five months. However, immigration officials denied them entry, citing newly implemented 2025 regulations that require visitors to show return tickets upon arrival. This unexpected turn of events has left many questioning how these new policies might impact future travel.
The lack of clear communication and advance notice has frustrated members of the Indian community and frequent travellers. Discussions on social media platforms, such as Reddit, reveal mixed reactions to the incident.
One user commented, “An intended stay of five months without a return ticket, especially from a country with a high rate of illegal immigration like India, is a big red flag for CBP officers. Whether we like it or not, customs officials often make decisions based on nationality and residence.”
Another shared a personal experience, saying, “I was almost turned away two decades ago because I couldn’t find my return ticket. It’s not a strict requirement, but entering the US isn’t a right—you have to prove your intention to leave.”
