Over 20,000 undocumented Indian nationals face deportation woes

With President Donald Trump’s administration of democrats taking over the United States, tension brews among over 20,000 undocumented Indians who might face deportation.

Despite Indians being the largest recipients of H-1B visas and having the largest foreign student group in the country, a large number of Indians in the ‘land of the free’ are illegal immigrants.

Though the US government has been providing asylum to many, a large number of them – approximately 20,000 – are facing the threat of deportation amid the crackdown on immigration announced on Day One of the Trump era, as per reports.

To tackle illegal immigration, as many as 10,000 soldiers could be sent to the US-Mexico border, as per US media.

Recently Trump said, “I like both sides of the argument, but I also like very competent people coming into our country, even if that involves them training and helping other people that may not have the qualifications they do”.

Data released by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reportedly suggests that a country in Central America named Honduras tops the list with 2.61 lakh undocumented individuals who have been identified for deportation.

The first list of deportation included 17,940 Indians among 1.445 million individuals with final orders of removal, according to media reports.
