An Indian entrepreneur based in Canada, Dev Mitra, recently expressed struggles as a student in a foreign land in a podcast.

Mitra is the founder and managing partner of a Canada-based business management consultancy. During the podcast, he spoke about his life in Canada, where he has been residing for the past six years.

He revealed that he left his corporate job of ₹14 lakh per annum to study in Canada and took up a job as a waiter to sustain himself.

The video on social media was captioned as, “The sad reality of being a student studying abroad!”.

Mitra said that it is hard to accept the reality as pressure builds on the student who is on a foreign land, knowing there is a huge loan waiting for them in their country.

He mentioned that one will have to work, earn and even study for that loan which is sometimes taken even mortgaging an only ancestral land back in your own nation.

The video garnered mixed response on the internet. A user commented, “Bro, you make more as a waiter than the average person in Canada. Tipping culture is real, and you earn a lot on top of a normal wage. If you’re a bartender, that’s even better.”

“Outside of Asia people don’t treat you any differently if you are an engineer or waiter. You work, make your money and hustle. The city doesn't care, only maybe your family,” another user commented.
