Canada introduces new visa category for healthcare and trade workers
The Canadian government has decided to ease visa regulations for the healthcare and trade work categories. In the healthcare sector, professionals such as Animal Health Technologists, Veterinary Technicians, Cardiology Technologists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Therapists, Medical Technologists, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Social and Community Service Workers, and Social Workers will be granted entry with more lenient criteria.
For the year 2025, Canada has decided to implement category-based entries for Express Entry. The education sector has also been included in the Express Entry programme for 2025. Moreover, Canada is eager to grant Express Entry to skilled workers involved in the agricultural sector.
In the trade work category, professionals such as Oil and Gas Drilling Service Workers, Floor Covering Installers, Painters, Interior Decorators (excluding other decorators), Roofers, Shinglers, Concrete Finishers, Water Well Drillers, Electric Mechanics, Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics, Bricklayers, Cabinet Makers, Gas Fitters, and Industrial Electricians will also be included in the Express Entry system.
A new draw will be conducted for all the above-mentioned categories, allowing entry with lower merit requirements. The Canadian government, which regulates the entry of foreign nationals, has now adopted a more lenient approach.
Recently, a new Education category was announced in the selection process for federal economic immigrants in Canada. This change aims to meet Canada's long-term workforce needs by granting permanent residency to individuals with prior work experience in the country, while also inviting skilled professionals from abroad.
