Canada immigration’s sudden mails of resubmission of documents haunts Indian students
Students aspiring to get into Canadian institutes have received emails from the country’s immigration department, asking to resubmit their documents. Adding to the already stressful procedure, the students have been asked for resubmission of study permits, visas, and educational records by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
This comes after IRCC’s announcement in November that it had discovered over 10,000 fraudulent student acceptance letters this year.
Amid strict checks, Canada’s immigration authorities reviewed 5,00,000 documents in 2024. According to reports, around 80% of the fake documents are linked to students from Gujarat and Punjab.
According to media reports, many students received emails from IRCC to resubmit documents despite their visas being valid until 2026. The sudden emails from the immigration have cast panic among Indian students in Canada.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Canada hosts the highest number of Indian students, with approximately 4,20,000 enrolled, while the United States ranks second with around 3,30,000 students.
Recently, the Canadian government revised its student visa policies. Now, individuals applying for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) will need to secure a job matching their qualifications after graduation to be eligible for the permit.
