Heavy Rain Batters Ahmedabad Rural: 900 Workers Trapped at Changodar Industrial Estate, Massive Rescue Underway

Torrential rain wreaked havoc across Ahmedabad Rural on Saturday, inundating villages, residential societies and industrial estates, while a large-scale rescue operation was launched after more than 900 workers were trapped inside the Gallops Industrial Estate near Changodar due to severe flooding.

900 Workers Stranded as Industrial Estate Goes Under Water

Relentless rainfall led to widespread waterlogging across vulnerable parts of Ahmedabad Rural, severely disrupting road connectivity and industrial operations.

The worst-hit location was Gallops Industrial Estate near Changodar, where floodwaters entered factory premises and submerged approach roads, leaving nearly 900 workers stranded inside various industrial units.

Multi-Agency Rescue Operation in Full Swing

Authorities swiftly launched a massive rescue mission involving more than 200 personnel from the Ahmedabad Rural Police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Indian Army and the Indian Coast Guard.

Rescue teams deployed boats and specialised equipment to evacuate workers trapped inside the flooded estate.

Officials said around 500 workers had been rescued safely, while nearly 400 others remained stranded across different units at the time of publication. Rescue teams continued operations to bring every worker to safety.

Flooding Disrupts Normal Life Across Ahmedabad Rural

Apart from the industrial estate, heavy rainfall flooded several villages and residential societies across Ahmedabad Rural, with low-lying areas bearing the brunt of the downpour.

Emergency response teams have been deployed across affected locations, while authorities are closely monitoring the evolving situation.

Authorities Urge Caution

Officials have advised residents to avoid travelling through waterlogged roads unless absolutely necessary as rescue and relief operations continue.

The administration said evacuation efforts at Gallops Industrial Estate would continue until all stranded workers were safely rescued. The full extent of the damage caused by the flooding is yet to be assessed as the rain situation remains dynamic.
