12-year-old Indian-American Bruhat Soma clinches national spelling bee contest in US
12-year-old Indian-American Bruhat Soma clinched the 96th 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion held in Florida, USA.
Soma, hailing from Tampa, Florida, is a grade VII student at Turner/Bartels K-8 School. Bruhat’s father Srinivas Soma is originally from Nalgonda in Telangana.
He spelled a total of 29 spelling correctly followed by Faizan Zaki, who correctly spelled 20 words in the Spell-off.

Soma marked his win by correctly spelling his final word, “abseil”.
He previously competed in the competition in 2022 (tied for 163rd place) and 2023 (tied for 74th place).
Last year, Indian-American Dev Shah correctly spelt “psammophile” and won the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
