Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Russia last month and is set to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week. This development has caused a stir after a shocking revelation by Russian media.

Russia’s state-run media outlet, Sputnik India, has reported a sensational claim that the US is allegedly plotting to topple the Modi government by colluding with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu after the introduction of the Waqf Board Bill.

The report, published on August 14, further asserts that the US is also attempting to involve opposition leaders in this conspiracy.

The report is titled as “India Closely Monitoring US ‘Diplomatic Tours’ Around the Country”.

According to Sputnik India, the CIA, the US intelligence agency, is allegedly plotting with the Andhra Baptist Church and various opposition leaders to pull Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) out of the ruling NDA coalition, and into the opposition INDIA bloc.

The central government introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill during the parliament’s monsoon session, and in its opposition was the BJP’s alliance partner TDP. As a result, the Modi government referred the bill to a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) of 31 members for review.

Around the same time, US Consul General Jennifer Larson met with Asaduddin Owaisi, President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), in Hyderabad on August 12. Notably, this was her second meeting with Owaisi within a week.

Previously, Larson met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on July 31.

Additionally, on August 2, Larson also met with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Speculations have also been growing over the close ties between the two CMs, Revanth and Naidu, spotted during the events leading up to the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.

Connecting all these events, Sputnik India claims that Naidu may bring a no-confidence motion to overthrow the Modi government.

On the contrary, some political experts believe that just as former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina blamed the US for the unrest against her, Russian media might be trying to spread similar narratives in India to create an anti-American sentiment among the public.
