Sugar Crosses ₹70/kg, Ahmedabad Half-Cutting Tea Price Hiked From ₹10 To ₹15

Rising sugar prices have started hitting consumers directly, with tea and coffee prices increasing at stalls across Ahmedabad. The price of sugar has reportedly jumped from around ₹45 per kg to above ₹70 per kg in just 10 days, forcing tea and coffee vendors to revise their rates.

The sharp rise in sugar prices has increased the daily cost of preparing tea and coffee, putting additional pressure on both vendors and consumers.

Half-cutting tea now ₹15

The price of a half-cutting tea, which was earlier available for around ₹10, has now been increased to ₹15 at several tea stalls.

Similarly, half a cup of coffee that previously cost ₹15 will now cost around ₹20.

Some tea stalls have also stopped offering the ₹10 tea parcel, with minimum parcel prices now ranging between ₹15 and ₹20.

Sugar up ₹25 in 10 days

According to local wholesale and retail market traders, sugar was selling at around ₹45 per kg just 10 days ago, but its price has now crossed ₹70 per kg.

The increase comes amid already elevated prices of milk and other ingredients used to prepare tea and coffee.

For tea stall owners, the rise in input costs has made a price revision difficult to avoid. For daily-wage workers and middle-class consumers, however, even a routine cup of tea is becoming more expensive.

The sharp increase in sugar prices has therefore started making its impact felt not only in household kitchens but also at Ahmedabad's tea stalls.
