Rahul Gandhi Raises Pellet Gun Issue In Parliament, Opposition Demands PM And Amit Shah’s Response

The Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed fresh protests on Wednesday as the Opposition intensified its attack on the Centre over the alleged use of pellet guns against protesters at Jantar Mantar, demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah address the issue in Parliament.

Before the House assembled, senior leaders of several Opposition parties marched from the Gandhi statue to Makar Dwar inside the Parliament complex. Congress MPs, Samajwadi Party members and leaders from other Opposition parties joined the protest, calling for an immediate discussion on issues concerning students and young people.

Rahul Gandhi questions alleged pellet gun use

The Opposition has accused the government over the alleged police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20, 2026.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned who had authorised the alleged use of pellet guns on demonstrators and demanded accountability. Opposition parties have insisted that Home Minister Amit Shah make a statement in Parliament, explain the circumstances surrounding the police action and clarify the security arrangements in place on the day of the protest.

Donation controversy raised in Parliament

The alleged donation theft controversy linked to the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust also echoed through Parliament.

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the Centre over the role of central investigative agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in the matter. He called for greater transparency and sought a detailed response from the government.

Bills passed amid Opposition protests

Despite continuous sloganeering in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Amendment Bill and the Appropriation Bill. Both legislations were passed by voice vote without a detailed discussion as disruptions continued.

The persistent protests forced repeated adjournments of proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, the Birth and Death Registrar Amendment Bill will now move forward for the next stage of approval.

Adjournment notices seek debate

Congress MPs have submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha seeking a discussion on the alleged police action at Jantar Mantar.

The Opposition has also sought a special debate on the proposed anti-defection law, arguing that stricter legal provisions are needed to curb politically motivated defections and strengthen parliamentary accountability.

The latest confrontation adds to the ongoing deadlock in Parliament, with repeated protests and adjournments continuing to disrupt the Monsoon Session as the Opposition presses the government for answers on multiple contentious issues.
