Rahul Gandhi Alleges Amit Shah Cleared Pellet Gun Use on Students, Vows to Raise Issue in Parliament

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of authorising the use of pellet guns against students during recent protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, saying he would raise the issue in Parliament and demand accountability from the Centre.

The remarks came amid an intensifying political confrontation over the government's handling of student demonstrations linked to the alleged examination leak, with the Opposition sharpening its attack over the use of force against protesters.

Rahul Gandhi Targets Amit Shah Over Protest Crackdown

Addressing reporters, Rahul Gandhi alleged that pellet guns had been used against students taking part in protests and claimed such action could not have taken place without authorisation from the Union Home Ministry.

He said the matter would be raised in Parliament, arguing that the alleged use of pellet guns against students was a serious issue that required answers from the government.

A day earlier, Gandhi had presented a student who he claimed suffered severe eye injuries during the protests, accusing the government of attacking the country's youth instead of addressing concerns over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.

Allegations Follow Student Protest Over NEET-UG Row

The controversy stems from the July 20 student protest organised in Delhi over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. The demonstration later witnessed clashes between protesters and security personnel, triggering allegations of excessive force.

Medical reports and accounts from injured protesters have intensified questions over whether pellet ammunition was used during crowd-control operations. At least some injured protesters have been treated for wounds described as consistent with pellet injuries, although there has been no official confirmation that pellet guns were fired.

Delhi Police Deny Pellet Gun Use

Delhi Police has categorically denied using pellet guns during the protest, describing such allegations as false and stating that the force does not use pellet guns for crowd control.

At the same time, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) has begun a verification exercise into allegations that its personnel used excessive force, including pellet guns, during the July 20 protest. Officials have said the findings will determine whether a formal inquiry is required.

Parliament Set for Fresh Confrontation

The issue is expected to further intensify the standoff between the government and the Opposition during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Opposition parties have continued to press for accountability over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the handling of student protests, while the government has maintained that it is prepared to discuss the matter in Parliament.
