Three days of protests over the transfer of a popular teacher in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district turned violent on Thursday, as students blocked roads, vandalised a block president’s vehicle and pelted stones at the Kandi police station. A policeman was injured in the clashes.

Students Protest Transfer Of Popular Teacher

The incident concerns a Plus Two High School in the Kandi police station area, where popular teacher Malay Singh was recently transferred to another location.

Students have been protesting for the past three days, demanding that the transfer be cancelled. The agitation had spread from the district office to the Kandi block office.

Students Allegedly Angered After Slap

The situation escalated on Thursday when students blocked a road during their protest.

Kandi block president Pinku Pandey reportedly reached the spot to speak to the students. According to eyewitnesses cited in the report, an argument broke out and Pandey allegedly slapped a student.

The incident further angered the protesters, who then intensified their agitation.

Block President’s Car Vandalised

The agitated students allegedly attacked Pandey’s vehicle, following which he went to the Kandi police station seeking safety.

The protesters reportedly followed him to the police station and began pelting stones at the premises. A policeman on duty was injured during the attack.

Additional Police Force Deployed

The situation remained tense in the area following the violence, with additional police personnel deployed.

The students are continuing to demand the cancellation of Malay Singh’s transfer and strict action against the block president over the alleged incident involving the student.x
