The National Medical Commission (NMC) on Wednesday alerted the MBBS aspirants of India studying in foreign through an advisory to ensure that all conditions prescribed by Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiates (FMGL) Regulations, 2021 are fulfilled before taking admission.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, the NMC stated that it has observed numerous Indian students seeking admission to private medical colleges abroad that fail to comply with the regulations set by the commission.

NMC informed that if MBBS students want to practice in India after studying at a foreign medical institute, they shall check (FMGL) Regulations, 2021 in which the terms of duration of the study, medium of instructions, syllabus, clinical training or internship/clerkship etc. are prescribed.

Not complying with this may result in disqualification with regard to their registration in India, and subsequently practising allopathy in the country. The document also stated that the responsibility for failure to register in such cases will solely lie on the candidates.

According to an estimate, approximately 20,000 to 25,000 Indian students go abroad to study medicine each year. For an affordable and easy admission option, medical aspirants prefer studying MBBS in countries including China, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines and Bangladesh.
