NEET results row: NTA forms Grievance Redressal Committee

Updated: Jun 9th, 2024

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to form a Grievance Redressal Committee where the students appearing for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) were awarded grace marks at some of the centres.

“The issue concerning the NEET exam is pertinent to 6 centres and 1600 candidates. To allay the fear of 1600 candidates especially, and other 23 lakh candidates, National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided that a high powered committee will analyse the recommendations by the grievance redressal committee. Thereby, addressing all the issues again,” said Subodh Kumar Singh, the director general of NTA, at a press conference.

Following the announcement of the entrance exam results on June 4, several aspirants and parents demanded an investigation, alleging irregularities and seeking clarification from the National Testing Agency (NTA) on how 67 candidates, including six from the same centre in Haryana, secured the top rank in NEET.

On June 7, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged irregularities in the NEET 2024 results and sought a probe to "resolve legitimate complaints".

Taking to her official X handle, Priyanka Gandhi stated, "First, the NEET exam paper was leaked, and now students are alleging a scam in the results. Serious questions are being raised over six students from the same centre scoring 720 out of 720 marks, and various irregularities are coming to light."

Highlighting the rising suicide rates among students after the result announcement, the Congress leader expressed her distress over the deaths.

She said, "There are reports of many children committing suicide across the country after the results were announced. This is very sad and shocking."

Priyanka also targeted the administration for not taking appropriate action in the paper leak issue.

67 students have scored the full marks, 720 out of 720, which was frowned upon by many as NEET is considered one of the toughest exams to crack. Moreover, 6 out of 67 students belonged to a single exam centre in Haryana, raising speculations of malpractices even further.

Many candidates have taken to social media, questioning how 67 students can get full marks in such a tough exam, as this has ‘never happened before’.
