Ahead of Diwali, TMC MP Mahua Moitra lost one of her rescued dogs due to cardiac arrest, allegedly because of firecracker noise pollution.

In a post on Sunday, Moitra wrote on her X, “Hello @noidapolice @CP_Noida - one of my rescued rehab babies just died of cardiac arrest at @SmartSanctuary Noida due to explosive non-stop banned firecrackers. This is murder. Can you please enforce the ban? Shameful.”

She called out Noida police and demanded a complete ban on firecrackers ahead of Diwali.

While one user commented, “Sorry for your loss, but how did you find out the cause?” another wrote, “Cracker ban should be enforced seriously for the sake of all living beings... Humans and animals.”

The incident occurred at an animal shelter, Smart Sanctuary in Greater Noida.  In the same tweet, the shelter’s owner Kaveri Rana, explained how that rescued disabled dog died.

According to her retweet, Guddu, the dog’s spine was shattered by a speeding car last year, however, he survived with his disability with a cart. She added that the dog suffered a cardiac arrest due to “banned” firecrackers.

As per veterinary experts, dogs can hear sounds at lower decibels than humans, especially at higher frequencies.

Dogs may respond more to high-pitched voices as “humans find it easiest to hear frequencies between 128-4,000 Hz, while dogs are most sensitive to higher frequencies between 200-15,000 Hz,” according to the National Protective Security Authority.
