LS polls: 62.60% voter turnout in Phase 4, West Bengal crosses 75%

The Election Commission of India released the official figures of the voter turnout for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in India.

According to ECI, the voter turnout on May 13 for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha Election was 62.60%

The highest voter turnout was reported in West Bengal, standing at a staggering 75.72%, on the other hand, the lowest turnout for the phase 4 of LS polls was registered at Jammu and Kashmir, with only 35.97% voter turnout.

Hyderabad BJP candidate in trouble

On the polling day for phase 4, after the video of the BJP candidate K Madhavi Latha checking the identity cards of Muslim women and asking them to show their faces went viral on social media, Hyderabad district Collector and District Magistrate Anudeep Durishetty, who is also the returning officer of Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, said a case was registered against her.

Sporadic incidents of violence reported in Bengal

Reports of tension and violence in different pockets, especially from the two constituencies in Birbhum district came to light in West Bengal.

Tension started in front of a booth at Nanur in Birbhum district at the beginning of the polls. The BJP complained of forceful eviction of their polling agent from the booth by the ruling Trinamool Congress activists. 

At Barwan under Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency in Murshidabad district, reports of clashes between Trinamool Congress and Congress workers have surfaced. The state Congress president and the sitting party MP and candidate from Baharampur Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that although the ruling party activists tried to create tension in the area.
