Kerala Police arrest 44 accused in teen’s sexual abuse case
The Kerala Police have arrested 44 people allegedly involved in the rape of an 18-year-old girl in the southern state. The teen in her complaint had alleged that she was sexually abused by 62 people over five years. Reports indicate that the girl belongs to the Dalit community.
The victim, an athlete, had informed the police in her statement of the sexual exploitation she faced for five years.
Police have apprehended 44 accused in the case, including four minors.
According to reports, out of the 62 men, police have already identified 58, and efforts to arrest the remaining individuals are ongoing.
This wave of child sexual abuse cases, exemplified by the recent incidents in Gujarat, highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive and decisive response to this grave societal issue.
In Gujarat, the spectrum of abuse ranged from the molestation of a 5-year-old girl in Dhrangadhra to the rape of a 16-year-old in Mehsana. These cases, coupled with allegations of police inaction and a perceived lack of swift response from the government, paint a deeply concerning picture of the challenges faced in combating child sexual abuse in India.
