After elections for the Haryana Assembly were announced to be held on Oct 1 for 90 assembly seats, both the Congress and BJP have begun preparations for campaigning and election strategies. There is ongoing deliberation in both parties regarding ticket distribution.

Meanwhile, there are reports of a rift between Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP over ticket distribution for the Haryana Assembly elections.

The RSS reportedly wants 40% of new faces to contest the elections based on ground surveys. As per a survey conducted by RSS across all 90 assembly constituencies, public dissatisfaction with many of the current BJP MLAs has been found.

Consequently, the RSS reportedly suggested dropping 36 sitting MLAs. However, the BJP is inclined to re-nominate the existing candidates, creating a dilemma for 36 constituencies.

BJP, RSS not on same page

According to sources, the BJP leadership has rejected the RSS report. The BJP prefers to continue with the current leaders and has prepared a list of candidates for each seat.

The state election committee will discuss this list at a meeting in Gurgaon scheduled on Aug 22. A panel of three names per seat will be prepared, and the final list will be presented to the central leadership. The party is expected to finalise the first list by holding a meeting of the central election committee on Aug 23.

Amit Shah to finalise candidates

The BJP high command aims to field prominent leaders in this election, but many leaders are pushing for their family members to be given tickets, suggested reports.

According to BJP sources, Amit Shah will play a crucial role in finalising the tickets in Haryana, as he has been entrusted with the responsibility of securing a third term for the party in the state.
