The coordination meeting held at BJP leader Rajnath Singh's residence on Aug 11 witnessed heated exchanges between the BJP and RSS (Rashtriya Sevak Sangh) leaders. Reports suggest that Home Minister Amit Shah and RSS leaders had a dispute with the latter asking Shah about Centre's silence on atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. However, tensions rose when Shah was reportedly unable to provide a satisfactory answer.

The meeting, convened at the BJP’s request, also discussed the issue of electing a new BJP president. In this meeting, Amit Shah and J P Nadda represented the BJP, while Dattatreya Hosabale and Arun Kumar represented the RSS. Hosabale and Kumar are both senior RSS functionaries.

Typically, such meetings are held at Nadda’s residence due to his position as BJP president, but the RSS reportedly, insisted on having the meeting at Rajnath Singh’s residence.

Following the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, over hundreds of Hindus have been killed in the ensuing violence, and thousands of Hindu homes and shops have been burned.

The inaction of Centre over this has led to significant dissatisfaction among RSS and other Hindu nationalist activists, who have expressed their frustration towards their leaders and the government.

The meeting also faced friction over the RSS’s insistence that the selection of the new BJP president should be made based on their recommendations.

It is believed that the RSS urged the BJP to appoint a new acting president immediately, replacing J P Nadda.

The RSS has indicated it will not provide support if Nadda goes into the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.

A highly significant meeting of top BJP leaders is also scheduled for Aug 17.
