23-year-old influencer Apoorva Mukhija faces rape threats online after India’s Got Latent controversy

An influencer, Apoorva Mukhija, is facing rape threats online after being embroiled in ‘India's Got Latent’ controversy.

This week saw a heated debate in the nation with headlines of ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy, which erupted following inappropriate comments by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia.

The situation continues to intensify as multiple state governments and police departments have filed FIRs against several guests, including comedian Samay Raina and content creator Apoorva Mukhija, also known as The Rebel Kid, who was one of the panelists in that episode.

While Mukhija, a 23-year-old content creator was being investigated over ‘vulgar’ comments, she is now facing rape threats across social media be it Reddit, X or her own Instagram comments by the same people who have alleged her vulgarity.

According to social media reports, a BJP worker and actor named Rudrana Singh was among the netizens who were posing rape threats.

However, he claimed that his Instagram account was hacked.

Notably, there were many disturbing comments targeting Mukhija.

“It’s unfortunate, but what’s more unfortunate is that the confidence that such people who are sending DMs get for using such language and vulgarity is because of the popularity of shows like India's got lalent where we have normalised it. That is exactly why we need regulation of content,” an X user wrote.

“In one line he’s threatening to rape her and next line he says ‘samaj ko mazak bana diya hai tum logo ne’, (you’ve made a joke of the society)” another user commented.

However, no FIR has been filed against the rape threats so far.
