ED Raids in UP’s Former SP MLA

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted raids at multiple locations in Uttar Pradesh as part of a money laundering investigation against former Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Deep Narayan Singh Yadav and his associates.

The raids were carried out in Jhansi and Lucknow under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA)

Yadav represented the Garautha Assembly constituency in Jhansi district, as per reports.

The ED investigation stems from an FIR registered by the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Bureau, which accused the former legislator of possessing disproportionate assets.

Officials said the case is also linked to 23 additional complaints against him.

Preliminary findings of the investigation indicate the alleged generation and laundering of proceeds of crime through a network of companies and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) involved in real estate, construction and other business activities.

Officials further said that Yadav has faced multiple criminal cases in the past, including allegations related to cheating, forgery, extortion, attempt to murder and dacoity

Cases have also been registered against him under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act, and the Goondas Act.

The search operation was continuing  and  the ED has not yet disclosed whether any documents, cash or other assets were seized during the raids, as per reports.
