Social media influencer Amir Shokeen has been remanded to five days of police custody by a Delhi court in a case involving a video allegedly showing the racial harassment and humiliation of a man from Tripura. The Tis Hazari Court passed the order on Saturday, October 24, after police sought further time to investigate the case, recover a mobile phone and travel to Ahmedabad.
Police arrested Shokeen in Delhi's Karol Bagh area on Thursday. His custody was extended after his earlier one-day judicial remand ended on Saturday.
Police Seek Phone Recovery and Ahmedabad Visit
During the hearing, Delhi Police told the court that further investigation was required, including the recovery of a mobile phone and a visit to Ahmedabad. The defence counsel argued that the precise location to be visited in Ahmedabad had not been established.
After hearing both sides, the court granted the police five days of custody for questioning and further investigation.
On Friday, the Tis Hazari Court had remanded Shokeen to one day of judicial custody following his arrest.
Influencer Claims Video Was Scripted
The controversy erupted after a video allegedly featuring Shokeen and a man from Tripura circulated on social media, drawing widespread criticism over its content.
According to police, the video was made around a month before the case came to light.
After facing backlash, Shokeen issued an apology in a Facebook post, claiming that the video had been scripted and that he knew the man featured in it. He said the man had previously worked at a friend's café in Ahmedabad and described the exchange as a humorous video in which both men were joking.
Shokeen also maintained that he had no intention of insulting anyone.
Earlier Cases Also Registered Against Shokeen
The influencer has faced legal action in other cases as well. Officials said previous cases had been registered against him under Sections 323, 324, 504 and 506 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police are continuing to investigate the racial harassment video case, including the circumstances in which the video was made and the role of those involved.
