BJP releases second list of Lok Sabha candidates, Seven from Gujarat

As the Lok Sabha elections inch near, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has amped up their preparedness by releasing an additional list today of 72 candidates to contest the upcoming general elections.

This list includes the stalwart party leaders Nitin Gadkari (Nagpur), Piyush Goyal (Mumbai North), Manohar Lal Khattar (Karnal), Anurag Singh Thakur (Hamirpur), Basavaraj Bommai (Haveri), Tejasvi Surya (Bangalore South), Vivek Sahu (Chhindwara), and Pankaja Munde (Beed), among others.

Seven candidates from Gujarat:

Bhikhaji Thakor - Sabarkantha

Hasmukh Patel - Ahmedabad East

Nimu Bambhania - Bhavnagar

Ranjan Bhatt - Vadodara

Jashu Rathwa - Chhota Udaipur (ST)

Mukesh Dalal - Surat

Dhawal Patel - Valsad (ST)

Alongside these, the list includes 20 candidates from Karnataka, 20 from Maharahstra as well, along with 6 each from Haryana and Telangana, 5 from Madhya Pradesh, 2 each from Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, and 1 each from Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Tripura.

After declaring 195 candidates on Mar 2, the party high command decided upon these names after their Central Election Committee’s (CEC) meeting, taking the total number of disclosed candidates to 267.

In the party’s initial list, it was declared that prime minister Narendra Modi will fight the election from Varanasi, UP, for the third consecutive time. Meanwhile, defence minister Rajnath Singh was fielded from Lucknow, and Smriti Irani from Amethi.

The party is yet to announce any Lok Sabha nominees from Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Daman and Diu, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep.

Previously, BJP released 15 candidates for Gujarat, which included:

Bharatsinh Dabhi - Patan

Dinesh Makwana - Ahmedabad West (SC)

Parshottam Rupala - Rajkot

Poonam Maadam - Jamnagar

Mitesh Patel - Anand

Devusinh Chauhan - Kheda

Rajpalsinh Jadhav - Panchmahal

Jasvantsinh Bhabhor - Dahod (ST)

Mansukh Vasava - Bharuch

Prabhu Vasava - Bardoli (ST)

Meanwhile, incumbent MPs, including Parbat Patel (Banaskantha), Kirit Solanki (Ahmedabad West), Mohan Kundariya (Rajkot), Ramesh Dhaduk (Porbandar), and Ratansinh Rathod (Panchmahal) are not fielded in this year’s elections.
