Subways Shut, Roads Flooded: Mumbai Rains Disrupt Routines

Heavy overnight rainfall triggered widespread waterlogging across Mumbai and its surrounding areas, disrupting normal life in several parts of the city. Areas including Andheri, Bandra, Khar, Malad, Goregaon, Juhu and Versova witnessed severe flooding, while waterlogging on the Western Express Highway slowed vehicular movement.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Andheri Subway, a key east-west connector, was closed to traffic after being inundated. The subway, which faces chronic flooding during the monsoon every year, was shut from 1:45 a.m. to prevent accidents, with police deployed to manage traffic.

Low-lying areas remained submerged under knee-deep water, causing inconvenience to commuters heading to work early in the morning. While the showers brought relief from the city's humid weather, they also led to significant travel disruptions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and nearby regions, forecasting more heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. This year's southwest monsoon reached Mumbai 13 days later than its usual onset.
