NCC Team Rescues Man Trapped in Well for 18 Hours in Maharashtra’s Wardha

An NCC team from Nagpur rescued a man who remained trapped inside a well for nearly 18 hours in Maharashtra’s Wardha district after launching a swift rescue operation using ropes and safety equipment.

The incident took place near the Camp Office of the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-605). According to officials, personnel from No. 3 Maharashtra (Girls) Battalion NCC, Nagpur, received information about the incident on July 3.

Woman Raised The Alarm

At around 11.30 a.m., Deputy Camp Commandant Major Rizu Rawat was approached by a local woman, who said cries for help were coming from a nearby well. She informed the team that her neighbour had accidentally fallen into the well and had been calling for help, but no one had stepped forward to rescue him.

Major Rawat immediately informed Camp Commandant Lieutenant Colonel Priti Tiwari before rushing to the spot with Subedar Major Chandra Bhan Singh, Havildar (Nursing Assistant) Jangale G.B., Naik (Nursing Assistant) Ganesh and MTS Driver Vishal.

Rescue Operation Launched

The NCC team quickly began the rescue using ropes and other equipment available at the camp. A rescue tube was also arranged from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, who were present at the training camp to deliver a lecture to NCC cadets.

Officials said the man had fallen into the well at around 6 p.m. on July 2 and remained trapped throughout the night. He was finally pulled out safely at around noon on July 3 after spending nearly 18 hours inside the well.

Medical Aid Provided

Soon after the rescue, the survivor was taken to the NCC camp, where he received first aid and immediate medical attention.

Thanking the rescue team, the man said he had slipped into the well on the evening of July 2 and believed he had been given a second chance at life because of the NCC personnel. He said the team guided him, used a rescue tube to pull him out and saved his life.

NCC Praised for Timely Action

Lieutenant Colonel Priti Tiwari, Officer Commanding of No. 3 Maharashtra (Girls) Battalion NCC, praised the team for its quick response and dedication to public service. She said the operation reflected the NCC’s motto, “Unity and Discipline.”

Officials added that the successful rescue highlighted the NCC’s commitment to community service, showing that its role extends beyond training and contributes directly to helping people in emergencies.
