A statement by Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat has sparked a controversy after an 11-year-old lost his life due to tree falling on the school bus Chembur.

When questioned about the media on the incident, Shirsat, Minister for Social Justice from Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, said that a tree falling is beyond human control as he considered tree failing or lightning natural you do never when a tree is about to fall, as per reports.

When asked about residents’ concerns that the required audit work was not carried out in the area, Shirsat said such incidents do not happen due to negligence and that the work continues. 

He added that strong winds can sometimes lead to tree falls. 

He also said the government would make a statement in the Assembly and instructions had been issued to the civic authorities to prevent such incidents. 

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when a roadside tree, reportedly around 70 years old, uprooted and fell on a school bus operated by Make Force company while it was carrying students of Universal High School in Chembur.

In the accident, 11-year-old Vihan Shrivastav died, while five other students were rescued. Four students suffered minor injuries, while one student sustained critical injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.
