Inaugural Ahmedabad–Colombo flight takes off under 'Chalo Colombo, Haalo Sri Lanka' campaign

Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) on Thursday marked the launch of FitsAir’s inaugural direct flight between Ahmedabad and Colombo, establishing a new air link between Gujarat and Sri Lanka.

The new route is expected to improve connectivity for tourists, business travellers and members of the Indian and Sri Lankan diaspora, while strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The inaugural service also coincided with the launch of the “Chalo Colombo, Haalo Sri Lanka” campaign, which aims to promote tourism and cultural exchanges between India and Sri Lanka.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya, among others.

The event featured a ceremonial lamp-lighting, the handover of the first boarding pass to an inaugural passenger, cake-cutting and commemorative photographs.

Airport officials said the direct service is expected to enhance travel convenience between western India and Sri Lanka, while supporting tourism, trade and business exchanges.

The route adds another international connection from Ahmedabad, which has witnessed steady growth in international passenger traffic in recent years.
