Russian airstrikes on Ukraine

In the latest development of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, airstrikes conducted by Russia have killed around 41 people in Poltova, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy took to social media platform X, informing that the country was subjected to this aerial attack, reportedly causing severe damages to a military education facility and a hospital.

The two ballistic missiles injured around 180 people, with survivors saved from the collapsing rubble, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence notified.

It added that most of the victims were struck while escaping to the bomb shelters.

Earlier, Russian military launched a massive strike on Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure facilities on August 27.

Before this attack, the US Embassy issued a warning of an elevated risk of attack around Ukrainian Independence Day, which Ukraine marked on August 24.

Nearly 15 missiles and 15 drones targeting the capital of Kyiv were downed, Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, wrote on Telegram. Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilians.

Previously, the Ukrainian president’s office mentioned that, since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022, 570 Ukrainian children have lost their lives, a figure that it said “continues to rise”.
