New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh, reportedly associated with pro-Khalistan views, has stepped down after losing his Burnaby Central seat in the Canadian federal elections.

Singh received about 27.3 % of the votes, losing to Liberal candidate Wade Chang who reportedly secured over 40 %.

Following the loss, Singh wrote on X, “I know this night is disappointing for New Democrats… But we are only defeated when we believe those that tell us we can never dream of a better Canada.”

He added, “We have built the best of Canada. And we aren't going anywhere.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mark Carney-led Liberal Party reportedly secured a rare fourth consecutive term, according to projections by Canadian broadcasters CBC and CTV.

Though it remains unclear if the Liberals have secured a majority, Carney’s message of stability and economic leadership amid US President Donald Trump’s tariff pressure is believed to have resonated with voters.
